The first question which comes to my mind is which IPMAT exam are we talking about?
Now that 3 more IIMs’ have declared that they are going to start IPM – 5 years integrated program in management , I believe that this is a golden opportunity for a student who has decided to pursue management as his / her career in future. IIM Bodhgaya and Jammu have decided to make a joint entrance for the selection and induction of new students for their IPM batch. The test JIPMAT would be conducted by NTA for the first time based on the requirement of one test for admissions into the prestigious IIMs’. The engineers dominate CAT exam which is for post-graduation in management from IIMs’. Hence the students who decide early to pursue management would find it easier to get admissions in IIMs’ immediately after XIIth irrespective of their stream of education.
The IPMAT exam is conducted by IIM-Indore and Rohtak for the admissions into their IPM batches. IIM Ranchi is going to accept the scores of IPMAT Indore. Moreover, it will also take scores of SAT as well.
Decoding the exam IPMAT, we find that there are majorly three areas where these exams focus on .
1. Quantitative aptitude
2. Logical reasoning &
3. Verbal ability and RC (English)
The syllabus for the QA section is majorly from maths up to Xth std. So if a student prepares the topics from the syllabus up to Xth std he or she will definitely clear the cut-offs and get a call for PI/WAT as the second phase of the selection process. The only concern is the time factor. 100 questions to be attempted in 120 minutes with a section-wise time limit making it more challenging. The student has to show good efficiency in each of the sections.
VA and RC section involves the unseen passages, questions based on para-completion and para-jumbles. Some of the questions are also based on direct vocab and grammar usage. If one has to excel in all three sections to clear the cut-offs way ahead, they need focussed guidance and practice of questions pertaining to each section. Need to develop different approaches to crack such exams and to unfollow the conventional approaches used in school exams.
A student should follow a 4 pronged approach – starting with Basics – practise – testing – analysis and again repeat the process until you start scoring good marks enough to clear the cut-offs to get the call for the second phase selection process. Career Launcher is one institute that has been involved pan India in the IPMAT exam preparation since 2012 itself and the success ratio of their students has been very high as compared to any counterpart in this test prep area. The well researched study material and the expert guidance from their faculties at Nagpur proves it .
Around 30 mock tests are sufficient enough to analyze one’s preparedness for the IPMAT exam and be sure of getting a call from the prestigious IIMs’. They are also starting mock tests on JIPMAT soon as the pattern of questions and sections are almost similar to IPMAT exams conducted by Indore and Rohtak.
